DENVER, CO – April 19, 2022, In March, the SEC released a proposed rule expected to become official by the end of 2022 that would force public companies to report the climate-related impact of their businesses and plans for achieving sustainable climate impact targets. This decision has become critical to protecting and incentivizing long-term investors who take ESG pledges into account when making investment decisions.
Over 80% of respondents to the SEC’s call for comments were in support of the new disclosure requirements. When an operator makes a Net Zero or other ESG related pledge, the company has established a duty to disclose their current status, plans, and progress. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has exposed improper compositions of a variety of ESG funds, highlighted the gap between marketing and reality, and increased the sense of urgency for disclosure.
A company can no longer simply claim to be sustainable with ESG goals and receive benefits from those labels. This highlights an important distinction between carbon accounting and transition planning. Accounting by itself provides no indication of a company’s ability to hit its future climate targets. Funk Futures has partnered with Actual, a next generation software company that is indispensable to operators adhering to ESG compliance and undergoing ESG transformation. Actual identifies the models, metrics, and targets required to track and mitigate risks using scenario analysis that assesses the resilience of an operator’s business strategy to climate-related risks. The platform provides enhanced descriptions of the scenarios used as well as parameters, assumptions, analytics, and projected financial impacts that are essential to maximizing shareholder value during a critical and transformational time for the energy industry.
About Actual Actual empowers forward-thinking organizations to turn critical ESG goals into action. Their software platform's powerful predictive models, comprehensive decision support, and detailed reporting transform complex ESG commitments into measurable results.
